The Ohabei Shalom community is committed to tikkun olam, whether the recipient is around the world or around the corner. Our annual Mitzvah Day is an intergenerational community event bringing together a variety of projects for all ages, and our popular Family Mitzvah Team does service projects throughout the year to benefit the larger community…a mini-Mitzvah Day! As a community, we have baked cookies for the homeless residents of Pine Street Inn, raised money for Project Bread through the Walk for Hunger, brought music to the elderly residents of Hebrew Senior Life, and assisted the Boston-Nicaragua Sister City Project. Additionally, our Social Action committee offers both educational and experiential programs throughout the year, inspiring us to do advocacy work as well as acts of service.

Kayla’s Caring Community, named for congregant Kayla Maya Soderblom (2010-2012) matches volunteers with congregants in need of meal support, friendly visits, new baby gifts, transportation to and from Temple events, shiva visits, and much more. Team Ziti, an arm of Kayla’s Caring Community, meets for cooking parties in order to stock the TOS freezer with meals for congregant needs that arise unexpectedly.
